Nattokinase is an enzyme extracted from natto, a fermented form of soy. Natto has been used as a folk remedy for diseases of the heart and blood vessels for hundreds of years. Nattokinase is promoted for use as a fibrinolytic agent; however, clinical trials are currently lacking to support this use. There is no substantial evidence that nattokinase lowers blood pressure in hypertension.
